个人简介Personal Profile

蒋博士是一位杰出的年轻学者和教研员,年轻的他已在英语第二语言教学和科研中得到了一定程度的认可。去澳洲纽卡斯尔大学深造之前,他已在中国著名英语培训机构教学6年,是位教学经验丰富的资深英语讲师.

读硕士期间,他成功修完一系列关于二语习得的课程,其中包括二语习得理论,跨文化交际,语言测试与评估等。同时他还专修了两门研究课程,出色的完成了一个关于学术英语语汇教学设计与实验性研究的课题。他的硕士论文研究入深,表达精确明了,论证严谨有力。同时,他的各科成绩都非常出色,20107月,他以杰出的成绩硕士毕业(Achieved a High Distinction)。

由于他硕士期间的杰出表现和成绩,随后拿到了纽卡斯尔大学高严选拔、竞争十分激烈的语言学博士录取。更值得一提的是,他还成功的获得澳洲全额博士奖学金(包括学费22,000澳元每年,生活费29,800澳元每年,医疗保险费 1,780 澳元每年,研究补贴5,500澳元,合计相当于人民币100余万),他是目前该大学应用语言学专业唯一一位获得该博士奖学金的中国年轻人。

蒋博士课题是实验性地研究两种不同的英语学术词汇教学法:宏观法和微观法。在研究过程中,他设计了两套学术语汇课程,并通过教学、分析、最后取得数据。他的研究结果会在第二外语教学的理论和实践都做了一定程度的贡献。值得强调的是,他的博士论文一次性通过,只做了极其微小的修改,这本身就是卓越的学术成就。

虽然蒋博士进入二语习得研领域不久,他的科研能力在本领域已得到专家认可。他硕士期间的课程设计智能词汇教学已被TESOL教材收录――《词汇教学推陈出新》,此书由世界著名词汇专家新西兰首都惠林顿大学Coxhead博士编著。2014年初期,蒋博士与澳洲语言学家合著论文《宏微观双向进程教学法在二语词汇教学中的应用》已发表在外语教学顶级权威期刊TESOL Quarterly上。他还应邀出席过多次国际性学术会议,并做专题论文宣读,其中包括澳洲悉尼大学、新南威尔士大学、麦考瑞大学、美国哈佛大学和新西兰惠林顿大学。

 

Dr.Guowu Jiang is an outstanding young academic and researcher with established credentials in the field of teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (ESL) and related research. He is an experienced ESL instructor, with a substantial ESL teaching experience in China before he came to Australia to pursue postgraduate studies.

As part of his masters program at the University of Newcastle, Jiang completed a number of academic courses pertaining specifically to ESL teaching and learning, incl. Second Language Acquisition and Language Testing & Evaluation. He also did the program’s research component, which involved designing and experimentally testing a dedicated vocabulary teaching course. The work that he submitted as part of his coursework Masters in Applied Linguistics was always very thoroughly researched and immaculately presented, and he achieved very highly in all of his masters studies. Jiang impressed all of his lecturers with his exceptional commitment and dedication. He was awarded Master of Applied Linguistics in July 2010 with Distinction.

Because of his outstanding achievement in his masters program, Jiang was later offered a place in our very highly sought after and competitive doctoral program in Applied Linguistics. It is noteworthy that he was also the recipient of the University’s highly competitive Postgraduate Research Scholarship.

Jiang’s PhD research involved an experimental study of two instructional approaches to ESL vocabulary teaching. As part of the project, he designed and personally delivered a 3�month ESL vocabulary course to university students from China. Jiang’s study produced results which will contribute to both ESL theory and practice. It is worth noting that his PhD thesis was passed for the doctoral degree with only minor revisions, which is also a remarkable achievement.

Despite being a relative newcomer to second language research, Dr. Jiang has already been able to make quite a significant impact the field. The vocabulary teaching course which he designed as part of his masters�level research has now been included in a soon to be published book calledNew Ways in Vocabulary Teaching (edited by renowned vocabulary expert AverilCoxhead). Also, earlier this year Jiang had a co�authored scholarly paper accepted by TESOL Quarterly―a journal which is widely regarded as the ultimate authority on ESL research. The publication of this paper alone establishes Dr. Jiang’s credentials as an authority in this area. He has also presented at numerous ESL conferences.
