In order to popularize fire prevention knowledge, enhance students' awareness of fire protection and improve self-rescue capabilities, the International College and the security office of our school held a fire drill at the side square of Dewang Library on May 13, 2019. 78 students, including 60 students from the International College, 6 undergraduate students and 12 master students from overseas education college, participated in the activity,

At 16:30, with the guidance of the counselor Su De, the students walked into the site in an orderly manner. After the venue layout was completed and everything was ready, the school security guard, Ye Xiaodong, introduced the application methods and cautions of the fire water gun to the students. The details are as follows: First off, in order to avoid knotting of the water belt, the swaying method is usually adopted, and the water bag should be forcefully pulled out and laid in the direction of the fire field. At the same time, Teacher Ye reminded the students that due to the heavy weight of the fire water gun, it’s important to take care to avoid accidental injury during the laying process. Secondly, connecting one end of the hose to the water gun, and the other end to the indoor fire hydrant. When connecting, the two ends should be accurately inserted into the card slot. Thirdly, due to the large water pressure, there should be at least two people to hold the water gun and aim it at the fire. The guards performed demonstrations after the explanation.

Later, Mr. Ye introduced the basic understanding of the fire extinguisher. Mr. Ye firstly explained the classification of fire extinguishers and their respective ranges of application. According to the movement mode of the fire extinguisher, it can be divided into a portable type and a trolley type; according to the type of the fire extinguishing agent, it can be divided into a dry powder fire extinguisher, a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher, a foam fire extinguisher and etc.. Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are used for relatively expensive equipment, archives, live equipment, laboratories and computer rooms; dry powder fire extinguishers are suitable for general flammable liquids, gases and live equipment; foam fire extinguishers are used to save oil products. Mr. Ye specifically mentioned that dry powder fire extinguishers and foam fire extinguishers cannot be used for live equipment. Next, Mr. Ye gave a detailed introduction to the use of dry powder fire extinguishers that are often used in life. The first step should be to pay attention to the pressure gauge. When the pressure gauge pointer points to red which indicates that there is no pressure in the fire extinguisher and it cannot be used normally. Next, pull out the insurance pin, hold the nozzle in one hand, and hold the pressure handle. The third step is to stand in the upwind direction and keep 2-3 meters to the fire , and align it with the root of the flame.

Finally, the students carried out the actual fire-fighting operations one by one under the guidance of the guards. Thanks to the previous detailed explanations and demonstration, the students quickly mastered the correct use of dry powder fire extinguishers. After the practice, the students were deeply impressed and expressed their interest. A classmate from the International College said: This fire drill made me understand the dangers of fire. I also learned a certain way of self-protection while improving my fire-fighting awareness. A student from the Overseas Education College also said: Safety takes precedence over anything and it needs to be placed first. This activity is very useful and meaningful for raising personal fire awareness.

The college organized the fire equipment training activities to strengthen fire safety management and popularize fire safety knowledge, so that students can fully recognize the importance of safety and improve their emergency response ability.
