The first workshop of this semester was held for Art and Design majors of the International College on September 20, 2016.Senior student Yu Ruowen (Roland) led the workshopandshared his experiences on art studying.

Roland shared his experiences in studying
Brainstorm is an innovative study method which has been a popularised art teaching approach in universities overseas. The Art Department of the International College invites celebrated professors, senior practitioners, up-rising designers and older fellow students who have studied abroad every semester to share their professional information and experiences on study and design.
As the guest of this time, Roland, who majors in graphic design, is studying at University of Southampton for Bachelor and Master’s Degrees. He is about to graduate this year with Master’s Degree. Roland said that art and design is what you should break the limitations and he encouraged the students to be innovative. He then made some examples on innovative design, such as a logo from an association of food critics. The logo looked like a nib at the first sight, but the clever designer transformed the central pattern into a spoon, which surprised the students.

Students shared projects with Roland
In the second half of the workshop, Roland led the students to design logos. He encouraged them to utilise what they saw in life into the design. Many students completed their logos at the end.
The whole workshop was very active. The students enjoyed a lot from the communications with Roland.
