Between 9 and 17 March, the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) gave external verification to our HND subjects. The verification wasdone in the form of expert inspection and postedevidence. By March this year, SQA has sent 7 verifiers to the International College and assessed 12 subjects including Personal and Business Lending, Global Business Organisations, Information Technology in Business, Business Law: An Introduction, Financial Sector: An Introduction, Principles of Insurance, and Managing Hospitality Organisations

External Verification is the inspection and direction of SQA to itsco-operational teaching centres and is the key to SQA quality control. In the verification, experts need to assess each subject from the following aspects: the teaching staff, the assessment of teaching outcomes, teaching materials and student quality. The results will affect the verification of the centre’s teaching level and scores of the verified subject.

Each verification has been taken seriously in our college. Teachers are pre-trained, the evidence is well-prepared and potential problems are anticipated. On the very day, the leaders, the project secretary and all the specialized teachers participate and answer the experts’ questions about the subjects. During this round of verification, the two parties communicated pleasantly and the process went smoothly.

After the verification, SQA gave credit for the teaching and management level of our HND programme, and gave a good appraisal to the teachers’ qualification and teaching level. In the meantime, the verifiers praised the good teaching practices of our college andgave suggestion for further improvement.
