The University of Southampton visit, following July after President Chu led a delegation to visit the UK visit, the main purpose is to dwell on the letter of intent agreed last visits. During his meeting with President Chu guest on cooperation between the two universities placed deep hope. My school and the University of Southampton has always maintained close contact, two school leaders are hoping to carry out comprehensive, cross-cutting interdisciplinary cooperation on this basis. Alistair Fitt, vice president, said he will actively promote and implement several visits reached in the letter of intent, the two schools expect to maintain a long and active partnership.

Alistair Fitt vice president and dean, Mr.Jeremy Kilburn conducted a one to one meetings with the responsible persons of our school of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Marine and Environmental Sciences and the Institute of Education to review the cooperation projects that have been executed at the same time, and furthermore to carry out more explored other areas of mutual interest.

At present, our school education and Oceanography and Environmental Science Research Institute and the University of Southampton respectively exchange of teachers and students, both researchers have established a link.   Xiamen University has applied for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering worked with each other in the UK Technology Innovation Programme ( Innovation China UK) project, and this summer launched the electrochemical summer camp is the popular subject that students welcome.  In addition, the international college and the Master of Education of University of Southampton have gone through well with the 1 + 1 master degree program and 2+ 2 undergraduate Art and design projects.

University of Southampton is one of the top ten UK research universities. In 2009, according to The Times,on UK university rankingis the sixteenth. In the aspect of teaching, the University of Southampton have been assessed as the most perfect teaching institutionseven consecutive years. 

The school in 2003 had been awarded the highest standards of Teaching Achievement Award by the National Assessment Committee. Electronic Engineering of the University over the years, is listed as the top one among the best UK universities. Among the top three Computer science, medicine, economics are listed as top three and other professional education are among the top ten.

National Oceanography Centre of the University is the largest marine research institutions around the world, gathered many leading marine research elites. The school has trained a group of internationally renowned alumni, among them in the design of Intel Pentium processors,John Hyde and the world's largest ocean-going sailing passenger ship Queen Mary II designer, Steven Peinuo.
