Recently, the highly anticipated Xiamen University(XMU) Smart Campus Big Data and AI Application Competition came to a successful conclusion. In this event that brought together the wisdom of the entire university, two students from the 2023 International Finance major of the International College(IC) of Xiamen University, Yan Chengguang and Zhang Hongyue, stood out. They teamed up with two students from the School of Information and, with their solid professional knowledge and innovative practical abilities, won the second prize in the final, adding more glory to IC.

This competition is hosted by XMU, organized by the Office of the Leading Group for Cyber Security and Informatization Construction, and co-organized by the Information and Network Center, the Academic Affairs Office, and the Library. It also received technical support from Xi'an Webber Software Co., Ltd. The competition stands out among campus events for its high standards and strong professionalism. The library provided rich data resources for the competition, including borrowing data, access records, seat system information, and scholar database materials, encouraging participants to explore paths for optimizing library services by combining AI and data analysis technologies. Since its launch in November 2024, the competition has attracted 54 teams from the entire university to participate enthusiastically. After rigorous screening in the preliminary round, only 15 teams with both strength and creativity advanced to the final.

Behind the outstanding results lies the meticulous organization and full support of IC. IC attaches great importance to the event and actively builds a cross-disciplinary exchange platform, encouraging students majoring in international finance to complement the strengths of the information discipline. This led to the strong collaboration between Yan Chen Guang, Zhang Hong Yue and students from the School of Information. At the same time, all the teachers of the professional group took on the role of "behind-the-scenes advisors", forming a preparation guidance team. They provided comprehensive and multi-round of guidance on topics selection, data mining, model construction and result presentation.

When preparing the competition, the four team members adopted an attitude of striving for excellence, leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms and big data technologies to deeply explore the value of data, and exploring innovative library services. The team developed personalized journal recommendation and AI question-answering services for book content. This not only improved the efficiency and utilization rate of library resource allocation, but also promoted the modernization and personalization of teaching, adding new impetus to the construction of smart campuses.

The award not only showcases the individual abilities of the two students, but also serves as a vivid illustration of the innovative talent cultivation model of IC. The competition not only enabled students to combine the professional thinking of international finance with big data technology, but also enhanced their data analysis skills, providing a new perspective for the intelligence of financial services. It truly achieved the goal of promoting learning and teaching through the competition.
