To gain an in-depth understanding of the academic and living conditions of the Class of 2025 and enhance the college's educational, administrative, and student service standards, International College(IC), Xiamen University(XMU) held a freshmen symposium on September 30th at Room 101, Building 4, Zhangzhou Campus. Dean Yu Hongbo engaged in a cordial dialogue with freshman representatives, discussing topics related to personal growth and development. The dialogue was presided over by Ma Xianghua, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee.

During the dialogue, students actively shared their perspectives based on their first month of campus life. While expressing appreciation for the academic and life support provided by IC, they also offered suggestions and feedback regarding course instruction, cultural and sports activities, daily administration, and residential community life.

Dean Yu listened attentively to the students' questions and suggestions, offering detailed responses to each one. Drawing upon the development history and educational philosophy of XMU and IC, she emphasized that studying abroad is a meaningful path that carries significant responsibility. She described IC as the starting point of this journey—not merely a platform for language learning and study abroad preparation, but a bridge that enhances cultural confidence and connects students with international education. She stressed that the college consistently upholds Xiamen University’s educational tradition of "caring for students as one’s own children," promoting personalized student development through a collaborative educational model involving academic supervisors, counselors, and administrative staff. Citing the experiences of outstanding alumni, she encouraged students to build a solid academic foundation and complete their studies successfully, while also emphasizing the importance of physical exercise to develop a strong physique and independent character, ultimately becoming outstanding talents with both global vision and national commitment. At the end of the meeting, Dean Yu presented mooncakes to each student, extending festive greetings and warm wishes.
The dialogue served as a significant initiative by the college to practice its "student-centered" philosophy, effectively broadening communication channels and strengthening students' sense of ownership. IC will continue to optimize the educational environment by addressing students' practical needs and supporting their all-round development, thereby advancing high-quality talent cultivation.
