When it comes to Accounting,
What will come to your mind? Many proper nouns, account names, and financial statements?
Is it difficult to learn accounting?
Today we invite Teacher Liu Jiali to share her viewpoints with us. Teacher Liu graduated from Adam Smith Business School, which is one of the largest top business school in the UK, with a history of 569 years, and ranks among top 1% business school in the world.
Q1:In order to learn Accounting and related courses well, what should students pay attention to? What should students do to improve their professional knowledge of Accounting?
Many students think that accounting is very difficult to learn. In fact, accounting is just difficult to get started. Students find it difficult at the beginning because there’s a lot of proper nouns and account names that seldom touched in daily life. Once they get familiar with these proper nouns and names, it’s no longer difficult to learn well.
Sure, it takes patience and care to learn this course well. The introductory course is Financial Accounting, which regard objectivity and accuracy as the highest standard. At the beginning, it may be a little boring, because there are not so many lively and vivid cases. But, if you can calm down and complete the financial statements, you will achieve sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
Accounting often teaches us to look at some social phenomena from different perspective. It’s suggested that students think more when they are watching social and entertainment news, and cultivate your own accounting thinking. Long-term exercise will definitely improve your professional level.
In addition, getting a certificate is a good way to improve yourself. The most popular certificates include ACCA in the UK, AICPA and CMA in the USA, and the certified public accountant in China, and students can have a try. The BA major of 3+1+1 program in International College can be exempted from the three courses of ACCA. In addition to the specialized courses and selective courses of your targeted school after going abroad, up to nine courses can be exempted from the exam, which is worth a try.
Q2: After graduation, as an accountant, why do you choose to be a teacher? What’s your biggest feeling since your teaching?
I entered into the profession of teaching by accident, but I fell in love with it after I started. At the beginning I felt that teaching was like presentation, and it was easy since I had done a lot of presentations during my school years. Gradually, I found that it is not only to teach, but also to learn. It’s particularly important to learn constantly and integrated all kinds of new knowledge and methods to improve the quality of teaching.
The happiest moment of being a teacher is to hear all kinds of good news from students. The feedback from students, such as accepted bytheir favorite schools, and find the jobs they like, made me happy and gratified.

Q3. It’s said that you prepared a lot for the online class during the epidemic period, could you share the main aspects of your preparation? What should we pay attention to in order to achieve good online teaching effects? How to guarantee the same quality of online and offline teaching?
To ensure the orderly progress of the online teaching, teachers of International College began to select and test platforms ahead of time, and determined the main live broadcast platform and the alternative platform. With the sufficient preparation, we can switch immediately to the alternative platform when there are problems, which ensure the smooth progress of the online teaching.
Finally, our professional group choose Zoom as the main live platform, which can solve most of the problems that we met before, such as multi-person video, group discussion, screen sharing, raise hands to answer questions and chatting. Besides, master the software platform, complete hardware equipment is also particularly important, such as cameras, writing pad, which help make teaching more rich and vivid.

Q4: What do you think is the biggest characteristic of students from the study abroad program of International College? What do you want to tell them or what are you expecting from them?
The biggest characteristic of our students in the independent study abroad program is their hard work. There’s a BA student who likes to go to our seven-star library-Dewang Library. After he arrived in the UK, the most he talked about with friends from all over the world was “Let’s go to the library”. I think it is the persistent pursuit of ideals and persevering efforts that make them to become better themselves.
The students in our college are outstanding in all aspects. After experiencing the “torture” of teachers in various subjects, they are excellent in knowledge reserve, taking exam, and presentations. Besides study, they also actively participate in recreational activities, participate in college students’ entrepreneurship competition, and have obtained quiet good results.
I hope students can be specialized in learning, keep reading, attend class, take exams, and hand in reports, balance study and rest. After graduation, they can find the job they like. We will be very happy if they come back or just send some news back. We’ll always waiting for you at International College.
