Recently, a delegation from James Cook University (JCU) was welcomed by the International College( IC) of Xiamen University(XMU). Dr. Jamie Fellows,  the acting Dean of the College of Business, Law and Governance at JCU, along with his delegation, was received by Yu Hongbo, Dean of IC, XMU. A scholarship launch session and a one-on-one Q&A session were organized by the JCU delegation for the students of the International College. The session was attended by Dr. Jamie Fellows, the acting Dean of the College of Business, Law and Governance at JCU; Summer Jiao, Associate Director of the Strategic Partnerships and Development Division, the Greater China Region; and Crystal Cao, Senior Manage of the Southeast China. The session was actively participated in by students from the 3+1 and 2+2 programs.

At the beginning, Crystal Cao, Senior Coordinator, of the South East China region, JCU, on behalf of James Cook University (JCU), delivered a brief overview of the University’s development, disciplinary strengths, and the distinctive features of its Townsville, Cairns, and Singapore campuses. As a leading Australian public research university, JCU is globally recognised for its teaching excellence and outstanding graduate employment outcomes, offering students an internationally oriented learning platform that combines academic rigour with unique locational advantages.

Major Announcement: Multi-Level Scholarships to Support XMU Students in Pursuing Their Dreams in Singapore and Australia.

At the meeting, a detailed explanation of the multi-level scholarship framework was provided by the JCU delegation, and a number of favorable policies were announced. JCU Australia Campus offers a 25% tuition fee reduction for students enrolled in our programs, with the GPA requirement waived. JCU Singapore Campus provides tuition reductions covering 2 to 8 courses, equivalent to approximately RMB 30,000 to 110,000. In previous years, multiple students from IC have been awarded these scholarships. All graduating students who participated in this session are eligible to apply.

Furthermore, in addition to the full opening of international student scholarship applications to the IC students this year, a special scholarship exclusively for XMU students has been additionally established by JCU, with 3 places having been allocated respectively to both the Australia campus and the Singapore campus. Through this initiative, further strong support has been provided for IC students to pursue their studies abroad.

Career Guidance: Focus on Employer Needs & Analyze JCU's Graduate Employability Excellence

During the career guidance session, relevant data from the Blue Book on Chinese Students Studying Abroad 2025 was cited by Crystal Cao, indicating that when selecting international graduates, current domestic employers place greater emphasis on comprehensive soft skills and internship work experience rather than on institutional rankings alone. The outstanding graduate employment performance of JCU was highlighted: the university is the only institution in Queensland that has been awarded a five-star rating for undergraduate employability for 15 consecutive years. The highest full-time employment rate for graduates among all universities in Queensland, and the second highest in Australia, has been achieved by JCU. Over the past three years, the highest median salary for international undergraduate graduates in Australia has been recorded by JCU, and the second-highest employer satisfaction rating in Queensland, and the seventh in Australia, has been attained. Furthermore, if a certain duration of study for undergraduate and postgraduate programs is completed by international students at this university, a work visa for up to approximately four years can be provided by the institution, thereby offering support for overseas employment and career development."

One-on-One In-Depth Q&A: Targeted Solutions, Future Planning

At the end, the session was brought to a climax by the one-on-one Q&A segment. In-depth, personalized, and close communication was carried out by Dr. Jamie Fellows and his team with the participating students. Active participation was shown by the students, and numerous questions were raised, covering topics such as program selection, pathways for graduate school applications, and overseas internship opportunities as well as career prospects. With their extensive work experience, educational expertise, and professional knowledge, Dr. Jamie Fellows and the two admissions managers patiently provided detailed answers to each question. Furthermore, tailored guidance and recommendations for the students' study abroad planning and career development were offered by them.

This session, not only brought tangible scholarship benefits and authoritative academic and career guidance to our students but also deepened the partnership between the two institutions. Moving forward, our College will continue to collaborate with world-class universities to build broader international exchange platforms and support our students in realizing their dreams of studying abroad.
