On November 10, a delegation from James Cook University (JCU) in Australia visited the International College(IC) of Xiamen University(XMU). The visit included a range of activities, such as exchange talks, presentations about the university, interactive Q&A sessions, and themed demonstration classes, which provided a practical platform for both sides to deepen cooperation and jointly cultivate internationally-minded talents.

At 10:30 a.m., the two sides held a meeting in Room 601 of the college. Jamie Fellows, the acting dean of the School of Business, Law and Governance at JCU, Jiao Yao, the deputy director of the Strategic Cooperation and Development Division of the university in the Greater China region, Cao Lu, the senior director of the Southeast region, Yu Hongbo, the dean of IC, Chen Jianru, the program secretary, and other representatives from both sides attended the meeting. At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the operation of the existing cooperation program. JCU, through detailed data, systematically introduced the learning experience and further education achievements of IC students at JCU, providing an important basis for optimizing the joint training model. Dean Yu extended a warm welcome to the JCU delegation and emphasized that both universities would further strengthen curriculum alignment, academic interaction, and student support to jointly build a smoother pathway for international growth.

At 1:00 p.m., the university’s information session was held in Room 101 of Building 4, attracting active participation from students enrolled in the SQA-AD (3+1) program and Bachelor's degree (2+2) Programmes of IC. At the beginning of the event, Jamie Fellows introduced his professional background: he not only holds multiple key positions at JCU, including Head of the Law Department and Director of the Tax Clinic, but also boasts academic experience from prestigious institutions such as University of Oxford and the University of Sydney. His research areas cover core legal and ethical topics, including youth justice and criminal sentencing, and he holds significant roles in Australia’s legal education sector. Subsequently, through a PowerPoint presentation, he provided a detailed introduction to JCU’s four campuses, the scale of its student body, and its modern facilities. He highlighted the university’s strengths, such as its business programs ranking first in student engagement in Queensland and its graduates’ starting salaries being among the highest in Australia. He particularly emphasized the university’s focus on integrating theory with practice, offering students abundant internship opportunities that effectively enhance their global employability.

During the interactive Q&A session, students enthusiastically raised questions regarding study abroad costs, scholarship opportunities, career prospects, and academic support for international students. Jamie Fellows patiently addressed each inquiry, highlighting the university's small-class teaching model with approximately 10 students per class and its comprehensive academic support system. He also presented university-branded gifts to students who actively participated in the discussion, fostering a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the event.

The subsequent thematic demonstration class, titled "Law as a Strategic Tool for Business Risk Management," was led by Jamie Fellows. Through real-world examples, he provided an accessible yet in-depth explanation of the practical application of law in business operations and how legal tools can be leveraged to protect a company's core interests. He guided students in group discussions and exchanges using multiple relatable case studies. The students actively engaged with the topic, contributing perspectives from diverse angles and demonstrating strong professional competence as well as cross-cultural thinking skills.

This visit not only deepened mutual trust and cooperation between the two institutions but also allowed students to experience firsthand the appeal of high-quality international educational resources and academic excellence. Moving forward, IC will continue to expand high-quality international cooperation channels, refine its system for cultivating globally-minded talent, and provide students with a more robust platform to step onto the world stage.
