On the afternoon of Sep 13, the opening ceremony for the 2020 new students of International College was held in the auditorium on Zhangzhou Campus.  Professor Tao Tao, Dean of Overseas Education College and International College, Wang Yi, the Secretary of Party Committee, all the teaching faculty and staff, and nearly 500 new students from all over the country attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Wu Di, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.

The Opening Ceremony of 2020 Autumn Semester

The opening ceremony kicked off in the majestic and passionate national anthem. Dean Tao, delivered a speech at the beginning. On behalf of all the teachers and students, Dean Tao extended heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to all the new students who have experienced the double test of the COVID-19 pandemic and Gaokao (the national entrance examination). Dean Tao also introduced the development process of Xiamen University and International College, and pointed out that International College has cultivated batches of excellent talents with ideals and beliefs, patriotism, and responsibility, and encourage all the students to be a person who loves country, study and life, and cherish the precious time in Xiamen University, to improve their English and Japanese , professional knowledge and all-round quality to the greatest extent, so as to lay a solid foundation for study abroad.

Wang Shandong, a teacher representative from the English Teaching and Research Group delivered a speech. Mr Wang shared his feelings of being a teacher and studying abroad, and hope all the students cherish the moment and have dreams, learn how to be a person in learning, understand the rules in learning to be a person, respect the rules, and live up to the youth in awe.  Wish all the students live up to the expectations of the parents and themselves in the future.

Wang Niu Qian Yuan, a new student of Fashion Management 2+2 program spoke as a representative. He said, “Although giving up the admission of the University of Edinburgh and University College London, I felt very proud of being a member of Xiamen University. And encouraged all the new students to adapt to the university life as soon as possible, set up lofty goals and cherish time, make efforts to study professional knowledge while enrich mind and broaden horizon constantly, laying a solid foundation for future ideals and life goals. His wonderful speech in both Chinese and English won the warm applause from the audience.
