Dean of School of Education in University of Southampton Issued Admission Notice for the Masters of Education

Jacky Lumby, dean of school of education in University of Southampton, and Li Zhen visited International College on 12th and 13th November, receiving reception of Prof. Zheng Tongtao, dean of International College, and Huang Guanhua, the office director. They had meeting on the cooperative program and student’s study. Jacky Lumby issued the conditioned admission notice for the 2010 freshmen. 

Jacky Lumby and Li Zhen interviewed the 2010 freshmen in Zhangzhou campus and communicated with the coordinator of this cooperative program. Jacky Lumby was satisfied with the comprehensive quality of the interviewees, he pointed out that most of the freshmen had clear goal and understood the questions posed in their interviews. The 2010 freshmen have different educational background, ranging from experienced teachers to fresh graduates. All of the freshmen have great passion on education and hope they can have further progress in this field. Jacky Lumby also provided the information about the 2008 and 2009 students’ academic performance in Southampton.

On 13th November, Jacky Lumby and his group had a meeting with Prof.Zheng and Huang Guanhua. Prof.Zheng stated that with utilization of hardware and software teaching facilities in XMU and adoption of successful school-running experience, the International College would further optimize the teaching teams and send more teachers outside to learn the relative courses they teach.Jacky Lumby agreed with that and hoped the two universities could further strengthen the mutual cooperation and interaction. Finally, the two leaders signed the updated cooperation agreement. 

After meeting, Jacky Lumby issued the conditioned admission notice for the 2010 freshmen in Room 210, Jiageng Building 5, Siming campus, and introduced the University of Southampton for the present students. According to his introduction, Southampton, on the south coast of England, is the largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire. It is 75 miles south-west of London. As with the rest of the UK, Southampton experiences an oceanic climate. Its southerly, low lying and sheltered location ensures it is among the warmer, sunnier cities in the UK.

University of Southampton is a public research university located in Southampton, England, ranking the top 100 in the world. Currently, there are approximately 22,000 students in this university, with about 3,900 overseas students including 1,200 Chinese students.  

Dr. Li gave a elaboration on the cooperative programs and she agreed that the program did provide a good platform for the students who would like to study in England. After that, Chen Yingdi, the 2008 graduate shared her one-year study experience in England with the other students. She was enrolled in this program after she finished her undergraduate study, majoring in educational institution management and leading. She said the one-year study outside did help she a lot. 

Two sessions of students have been sent to University of Southampton since 2008. The 2008 students have finished their courses there. One stayed in Southampton for PHD study and others chose to work in U.K or come back to China.
