On the afternoon of Sep 7, the opening ceremony for the class of 2022 freshmen of International College(IC) was held in the auditorium on Zhangzhou Campus. Leaders of IC, teacher representatives and all the freshmen attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Ma Xianghua, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.

The opening ceremony kicked off in the majestic and passionate national anthem. Dean Tao, delivered a speech at the beginning. On behalf of all the teachers and students, Dean Tao extended heartfelt congratulations and warm welcome to all the new students, and showed great respect and sincere appreciation to all the students’ parents. Dean Tao briefly reviewed the history of XMU, and pointed out that XMU not only has beautiful scenery, but also has a centenary, glorious tradition of pursuing excellence and striving for perfection. He hopes that the freshmen could appreciate the excellent and glorious tradition of XMU, and inherit and carry forward the four kinds of spirits, patriotism, revolution, self-improvement, and science, and live up to the mission of the times, and contribute to the prosperity of the country, national rejuvenation and social progress. He hopes that all the students keep the school motto in mind, always keep enterprising, regard learning as a quality of pursuing excellence, and realize their dream of studying abroad as soon as possible. He hopes that all the students seize the opportunity to study abroad, cultivate a global vision and could undertake the mission bravely, and grow into international talents who are familiar with international rules, actively participate in international affairs and competition, and are skilled at managing complex international affairs. He hopes that the students can adapt to the new environment as soon as possible, unite and help each other, integrate into university life as soon as possible, make full use of the first-class hardware and software conditions of Xiamen University, carry forward the fine tradition of physical education of International College, actively participate in various sports activities, enhance physical fitness, cultivate sound personality, and exercise will.

Tang Feng, as a teacher representative made a speech. She brought "three hearts" to the students with vivid examples. She hoped that the students would always be curious, keep their thirst for new things and new knowledge, and work hard with unremitting perseverance and a strong sense of responsibility, and finally gained "two satisfaction", that is, satisfaction with the international college's study career and also the personal growth and life, constantly flying youthful dreams, realizing the value of life, and contributing their wisdom and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

 Lin Ziang, from 2020 Hospitality Management and Weng Pingchuan spoke in turn as senior student and freshmen representative.  Lin Ziang, expressed warm welcome to all the freshmen on behalf of the senior students, and wish all the freshmen cherish the precious college life with passion and confidence in the busy university life, set goals and work hard, actively participate in various activities and cherish every opportunity to exercise and improve themselves. On behalf of all the freshmen, Weng Pingchuan said that XMU is a new station, a new starting point, and new chapter in the life of the freshmen. They will adhere to the motto of XMU “Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection”, strict with themselves, innovate assiduously, and forge ahead to live up to the youth.

 In the end, He Yuanzan, the secretary of the Party committee delivered a speech. Firstly, he expressed warm welcome to all the freshmen. He briefly introduced the history of Xiamen University and International College. He hoped that the students would cherish the hard-won learning environment, maximize their language knowledge reserve and all-round quality, go abroad smoothly and return to China as soon as possible, so that they can become outstanding successors who can contribute to socialist modernization. He put forward three hopes for the freshmen: First, he hoped that the students will stick to their original aspirations, forge ahead, cultivate family and country feelings, and study hard; second, he hoped that the students will never give up, and constantly step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves; Third, he hopes that the students will study happily, become talents full of confidence, and move towards their ideals. He put forward three requirements for the upcoming college life: First, abide by the rules and discipline, and keep polite. Second, safety and health first. Establish the concept of health and enhance safety awareness. Third, we should strengthen our ideals and beliefs, raise our political awareness, and be a socialist builder and successor. Strive to compose a magnificent youth chapter for yourself.

The ceremony concluded successfully in the solemn school anthem.
