At the invitation of Ms. Cyndi McLeod, Chair of the Board of Directors of University Canada West (UCW), Professor Tao Tao, Dean of International College, XMU visited UCW from October 16 to 19 and attended the inauguration ceremony of Professor Bashir Makhoul as the President of UCW. During the visit, Dean Tao visited the school's unique campus environment and advanced teaching facilities, and had an in-depth exchange with President Makhoul and his management team on the cooperation between IC and UCW. In addition, Dean Tao also had exchanges with Counselor Guo Jun and Consul Cui Mimi of the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver.

President Makhoul is a veteran higher education administrator and world-renowned artist, and served as an adjunct professor at International College, Xiamen University from 2019 to 2022. He has also served as Dean of the School of Art at University of Southampton, Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University and Chancellor of University of Creative Arts, UK. President Makhoul has long been concerned about and promoted exchanges between Chinese and British higher education, and during his tenure as President of University of Creative Arts in the UK, the University and Xiamen Univeristy jointly established Institute of Creativity and Innovation of Xiamen University, a Sino-foreign joint institution.
