Recently, the University of Sussex Freshers’ Welcome Session (Xiamen University Session) and Bursary Award Ceremony was successfully held in International College(IC), Conference Room 101, Building 4, Zhangzhou Campus, Xiamen University(XMU). Zhang Dingnai, China Admissions Officer at the University of Sussex, engaged in face-to-face discussions with students from the SQA Advanced Diploma (3+1) Programme of IC. He provided insights into study abroad policies and presented bursaries and certificates on-site, demonstrating the support and care from the partner university.

Mr. Zhang began by offering a detailed introduction to the core strengths of the University of Sussex, providing a comprehensive overview of the institution's profile, programme features, admission requirements, academic training system, and the latest admissions policies. As a renowned university ranked 278th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, the University of Sussex is not only the only university in the UK located within a National Park, but its Business School has also earned its place among the UK's top research-intensive business schools, achieving the highest research income in the country. Mr. Zhang provided an in-depth analysis of the Business School's disciplinary strengths and research achievements, allowing students to gain a tangible understanding of the university's academic heritage. At the same time, he highlighted the "Progressive Excellence Scheme" at the University of Sussex Business School, which focuses on practical support including academic resources, academic tutoring, and developmental assistance. The comprehensive academic support system and personalised development programmes at the University of Sussex build a solid academic foundation for students, effectively alleviating the pressures associated with studying abroad.

The welcome session also featured a bursary award ceremony, demonstrating the University of Sussex's commitment to valuing and supporting Chinese students through tangible action. During the ceremony, the University granted eligible students a dedicated £1,000 bursary, a benefit they will receive upon enrolment. Additionally, students at the event received a Certificate of Bursary for Outstanding Chinese Students. This honour not only recognises students' past efforts but also enhances their future CVs, providing a significant boost to their personal and professional development.

During the interactive session, students engaged in lively discussions with the university's admissions representative on topics such as overseas accommodation, academic planning, and career development. Drawing on his years of experience in international education, Mr Zhang offered targeted advice, encouraging students to maintain self-directed learning, make good use of campus resources, proactively seek support, and value class attendance. This not only helped students gain clarity on their study abroad plans in advance but also effectively alleviated anxieties about living overseas and strengthened their confidence for the journey ahead.

This event established an efficient communication platform between the university and students, reflecting the in-depth collaboration between the two institutions in cultivating international talent. IC will continue to engage with its overseas partner universities to provide students with more high-quality study abroad guidance and resource support, helping every student embark smoothly on their overseas academic journey.
