To gain an in-depth understanding of the academic and living conditions of the students and enhance the college's educational, administrative, and student service standards, International College(IC), Xiamen University(XMU) held a student symposium on June 2nd at Room 101, Building 4, Zhangzhou Campus. Dean Yu Hongbo engaged in a cordial dialogue with student representatives, discussing topics related to personal growth and development. The dialogue was presided over by Ma Xianghua, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee.

During the dialogue, students actively shared their perspectives based on their campus life, and offered suggestions and feedback regarding course instruction, cultural and sports activities, daily administration, and residential community life.

Dean Yu listened attentively to the students' questions and suggestions, thanked them for actively contributing ideas to the college’s development, and stated that the college would fully adopt reasonable demands, carefully sort out and study relevant proposals earnestly, and spare no effort to address existing issues. Drawing on real-life examples of studying abroad, she encouraged students to cultivate their problem-solving skills in daily life and improve their capabilities in independent living and self-management, laying a solid foundation for their future global development and adaptation to diverse international environments.

At the meeting, Dean Yu extended her sincere congratulations and best wishes to students who had completed their studies and were about to embark on new journeys. She put forward three expectations for all students: first, make full use of high-quality resources offered by the university and the college to take an active part in diverse academic events and exchange programs; second, step out of your comfort zone bravely, dare to experiment and learn from mistakes, and achieve steady growth through practice; third, uphold cultural confidence, hone cross-cultural communication skills, tell authentic stories of China and Xiamen University well, and strive to grow into competitive new-era talents with a global vision.
In closing, Dean Yu briefly reviewed the college’s 20-year development journey since its founding. She shared inspiring stories of outstanding alumni who have demonstrated strong social responsibility and commitment across various sectors. She urged students to cherish their campus years, build up knowledge and practical capabilities, develop critical thinking and cross-cultural adaptability, and realize personal progress and transformation.
The dialogue vividly reflected the College's commitment to the "student-oriented " concept. It not only opened up effective channels for communication but also strengthened students' sense of ownership. Moving forward, the College will continue to focus on addressing students' practical needs and supporting their growth and success, aiming to further improve the educational environment and steadily enhance the quality of talent development.
