On 6 April, Sophia, the fashion design teacher and interviewer from Winchester School of Art of University of Southampton, came to interview the 14 candidates now studying atthe International College of Xiamen University. The students’ specialties include graphic design, illustration, photography, pure art and fashion design.

During the interview, the candidates entered Room B209 one by one with the portfolio of their selected works and talked fact-to-face with Sophia, who gave comments on each of their works and exchanged ideas with them about their works’ creation form, design ideas and technical manifestation. In this way,a comprehensiveassessment of the candidate’practical, aesthetic and creative abilities could be made.

Sophia expressed her satisfaction with the interview at the feedback meeting. She said she liked these “promising and ambitious”students. The candidates showed their grace as well as language proficiency in the interview. As for the feelings of the candidates,they said Sophia’s comments gave them a clearer idea of artistic creation and the interview made them aware of their deficiencies in study. They benefited a lot from this valuable experience and would have a clearer planning of their overseas study

In addition to the interview, Sophia will give two-week lectures to the students. She praised the freshmen for their hard work and their willingness to share their learnings and ideas with others. She was also impressed by their many questions that were of depth and showed their artisticpotential.
