According to tradition, Bo Bing, also known mooncake gambling was invented by Zheng Chenggong when he stationed his troops on Gulangyu Island to alleviate the homesickness of his soldiers and boost their morale during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncake gambling has a unique character in the southern Fujian region, representing a distinctive mooncake culture and a form of cultural heritage that signifies the people's longing for better life and a wish for family reunions. To promote and inherit the excellent traditional Chinese culture, as well as to demonstrate the  humanistic care of International College(IC)  and enhance students' sense of belonging, on the afternoon of September 29, IC organized the mooncake gambling activity for the students stayed on-campus under the theme "Full of Love during Mid-Autumn, Celebrating National Day with Joy."

At the beginning of the activity, Tao Tao, Dean of International College, XMU delivered a speech. He vividly introduced the traditional customs and origins of the mooncake gambling to the faculty and students. On behalf of the college, he extended his best wishes to everyone. He hoped that the students would not only win the title of "zhuangyuan" (the top scholar) in the mooncake gambling but also strive for excellence in their studies. Dean Tao encouraged them to pursue their life dreams through their education at International College and fulfill the expectations of their parents and teachers.

This mooncake gambling activity followed the traditional method. In the center of each table, a red porcelain bowl was placed. Six dices and a box of mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival were prepared. By rolling the six dices and forming combinations according to six imperial examination levels like "zhuangyuan" (the top scholar in the imperial examinations), "bangyan" (the second place), "tanhua" (the third place), "jinshi", “juren”, "xiucai" , and participants could win corresponding prizes. The college also thoughtfully provided each student with a pomelo, which symbolizes good luck and auspiciousness.

After the activity started, the counselors and teachers went table by table to explain the rules of the mooncake gambling to the students. Teachers and students had a great time together, enjoying each other's company. With the lively cheers and laughter, everyone immersed themselves in the joyful atmosphere, and at each table, students took turns winning the title of "zhuangyuan" (the top scholar). The student at the first table who won " the special combination "zhuangyuan chajinhua" , the number one scholar inserting golden flowers, with four red dots and two red dots, as the highest level”, received enthusiastic applause and cheers, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

This participants of the activity not only had students from all around the country but also had "local hosts" from Xiamen. Many students were unfamiliar with the history and rules of mooncake gambling, so the "local hosts" patiently explained the knowledge of mooncake gambling and enthusiastically helped everyone check the dice rolls to determine their outcomes.

During the mooncake gambling activity, everyone engaged in lively conversations, discussing topics from all corners of the world. This allowed them not only to learn about cultural differences from various regions but also to experience the culture of southern Fujian, deepening their bonds and friendships. Wang, a freshman, mentioned that even though this was his first Mid-Autumn Festival away from his family, he learned how to play mooncake gambling with his teachers and classmates at school. He felt particularly happy and gained a deeper appreciation for the profound and rich aspects of Chinese culture.

At the end of the event, students and teachers took a group photo together, extending their warm wishes for a joyful and auspicious Mid-Autumn Festival, while collectively wishing for the prosperity and success of the country.
