On December 16, Professor Chris Whitehead, Vice President of Newcastle University (UK), and led a delegation to visit International College (IC), Xiamen Univesity (XMU). Yu Hongbo, Dean of IC, met with the guests and participated in discussions.

Dean Yu Hongbo extended a warm welcome to Vice President Chris Whitehead and his delegation, providing a brief overview of the IC's history, distinctive features, and recent developments. She emphasized that, standing at the new historical milestone of the college's 20th anniversary, IC remains committed to its original aspiration of delivering high-quality education. IC will continue to deepen strategic collaborations with globally renowned universities, expand premium study abroad programs, and provide a more diverse international exchange platform for students and faculty.

Professor Chris Whitehead spoke highly of IC's achievements in talent cultivation and other areas. He noted that Newcastle University is actively responding to the changes of the times and exploring new pathways for the development of international higher education, which aligns closely with the founding principles of IC. Xiamen University and Newcastle University have maintained a long-term and stable strategic partnership and have collaborated in multiple fields. Professor Whitehead expressed hope that this visit would further strengthen the friendship between the two institutions and explore new avenues for cooperation.

Finally, both sides engaged in extensive discussions on launching new collaborative programs and establishing new academic majors, reaching a preliminary consensus.
