On August 28, an opening ceremony for 2014 undergraduates was held in Shangxuan Stadium of Siming campus. Attendees included leaders of army and Xiamen garrison command, Party Secretary Yang Zhenbin,Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection Lai Hongkai, Vice President Wu Daguan, Zhan Xinli, Ye Shiman, President Assistant Zhang Jianlin, person in charge of each department, leaders of each college,representatives of teacher and student, and all the 2014 freshmen. The ceremony was presided by Deputy Secretary of party Committee Lin Dongwei.

Opening Ceremony began with the majestic national anthem. The President Zhu Chongshi made a speech to welcome the freshmen from all over the county, and he expressed his heartfelt gratitude and paid high tribute to those parents, teachers and relatives who cultivated the freshmen and helped them to choose Xiamen University. President Zhu also hoped that all the freshmen maintain humility, work hard, to be grateful , become the pillars of our country andmake morecontributions torealizeour nation's great revival.

Professor Xie Zhaoxiaong from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering on behalf of all the teachers welcomed new students,hoping students to think carefully about “what is university? How to learn in university? How to deal with the contradiction between the reality and ideal?”,and experience attentively of the four years’ study life.

Chai Gan from 2012 College of Management on be half of the undergraduate, wished all the freshmen can adapt to the new life in a short time, to be independent, willing to try, set up firm ideal and faith and inherit the spirit of Xiamen University.

As a representative of freshman, Jia Ru from College of Materials expressed heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and alumni, and determination and confidence to study hard , explore the truth and experience the university spirit.

The Opening Ceremony successfully concluded in the Anthem of Xiamen University.
